Legal Notice and Privacy

Who is responsible here, and what happens to your data: nothing, as far as we can avoid it.

Privacy Policy

This policy describes which personal data are processed when you visit this website. It follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). For visitors from the European Economic Area, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies in addition.

Controller

Karlo Beyer, Verlag von Bedeutung, Neustadtgasse 5, CH-8001 Zurich, verlag-von-bedeutung@mailbox.org. There is no data protection officer and no representative in the EU; a website of this size does not meet the conditions that would require them.

What this website does not do

  • It sets no cookies.
  • It uses no analytics or tracking services and no advertising.
  • It has no contact form, no newsletter and no user accounts.
  • It loads fonts, images and scripts only from its own server; no content from Google, social media platforms or other third parties is embedded.

Hosting and server logs

The website is operated via GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you open a page, your browser necessarily transmits data to GitHub's servers, including your IP address, date and time, the page requested, the previously visited page (referrer), and your browser and operating system. GitHub stores these data in server logs to run the service securely and reliably. We ourselves have no access to these logs and do not evaluate them.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing the website securely and economically (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). GitHub processes the data in the United States. GitHub is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework, so an adequate level of data protection applies to this transfer. Details are in GitHub's privacy policy: GitHub General Privacy Statement.

Contact by e-mail

If you write to us, we process your e-mail address and the content of your message in order to reply. Our mailbox is hosted by mailbox.org (Heinlein Hosting GmbH, Berlin, Germany). We keep correspondence as long as needed to answer and to handle follow-up questions, and delete it afterwards unless a statutory retention duty applies. The legal basis is the handling of your request (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR).

External links

Links to tredition, Books2Read, Zenodo and other providers lead to their websites, where their own privacy policies apply. Merely viewing our pages transfers no data to these providers.

Your rights

You have the right to access your personal data, to rectification, erasure and restriction of processing, to data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. Please write to the address above. You may also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority: in Switzerland with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EEA with the data protection authority of your place of residence. No automated decision-making or profiling takes place.

Changes

We will update this policy when the website or the legal situation changes. The version published here is authoritative.
